Last Day of Chemo

Today was a big day for Max.

Max was six years old, and for a long time, he had been visiting the hospital to get something called chemo. It was a special kind of medicine that helped him fight the tiny, invisible “bad guys” in his body. Max didn’t like chemo days—they made him tired, and sometimes he felt a little sick. But Max was brave. Brave like a lion, brave like his favorite superhero, Captain Bright.

On this special morning, Max woke up to sunshine peeking through his curtains. His stuffed bear, Button, was already sitting up, as if he knew something exciting was going to happen.

“Today is the last day,” Max whispered to Button. “We did it.”

At the hospital, all the nurses smiled extra big. Nurse Lily had even made Max a crown out of gold paper and shiny stickers.

“You’re our chemo champion, Max!” she said.

When the medicine was all done, something amazing happened. The nurses rolled in a big bell with a rope. Max had seen other kids ring it before, but today—it was his turn.

He stood up, held Button in one arm, and grabbed the rope.

DING! DING! DING!

The sound echoed through the hall, and everyone clapped and cheered.

“You did it, Max!” shouted Mom, tears in her eyes but smiling wide.

Max smiled too. He didn’t feel scared anymore. He felt strong. He felt proud. And he knew that even though the road had been hard, he had walked it like a hero.

That night, back at home, Max got a surprise—a big fort made of blankets, pillows, and fairy lights. Inside was a card that said:

“To the bravest boy in the world. We love you. ”

And as Max drifted off to sleep, with Button tucked beside him and stars outside his window, he whispered:

“I won.”
